National Training Course on Integrated Management System, 2-6 March 2009, was conducted by an IAEA Expert Mission and held at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI). This activity was in response to a request made by the PNRI under the Extrabudgetary Programme (EBP) on the Safety of Nuclear Installations in South-East Asia, Pacific and Far East Countries. The course helped to align the current Quality Management Systems at PNRI (ISO 9001 and ISO 17025) towards nuclear safety goals in compliance with IAEA GS-R-3 “Management System for Facilities and Activities.” Additional details of this activity are reported in the ANSN Newsletter No. 84, 1 April 2009.
R2D2 Project: Workshop on Cost Estimates, 30 March-3 April 2009, was hosted by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute. This was the fifth workshop held in the Philippines under the IAEA’s Research Reactor Decommissioning Demonstration Project (R2D2P). The first R2D2P Workshop on Legal and Regulatory Framework of Decommissioning was held in June, 2006; this was followed by the Basics of Decommissioning Research Reactors in October 2006. The third R2D2P Workshop on Transition Phase was held at the ANSTO, Sydney, Australia in November, 2007. The next two workshops held in the Philippines were on Characterization Survey in December 2007, and on the Decommissioning Plan in September 2008.
